Bloomberg and NBBJ bring us Data vs. Delight!!!!!!


On Thursday, July 18th, 2013 at 6:30pm at Bloomberg San Francisco NBBJ and Bloomberg, held an event to discuss whether or not we should the workplace of today be driven by people analytics. Experts from leading technology companies in the fields of social sciences and architecture debate work in the era of mobility, big data and the cloud.

The Moderator

Peter Burrows, Senior Correspondent for Bloomberg Businessweek. Peter Burrows is based in San Francisco. Previously, he was senior correspondent in Silicon Valley. Burrows joined BusinessWeek in 1993 in Dallas. Prior to BusinessWeek, he was a senior editor for Electronic Business. Burrows wrote Backfire: Carly Fiorina's High-Stakes Battle for the Soul of Hewlett-Packard.

The Panel

Scott Chacon is the CIO and co-founder of GitHub, where he is currently overseeing the design and build out of the company’s new headquarters, from HVAC to bike racks and everything in between. A long time Git evangelist, Scott is the author of the Pro Git book by Apress and the maintainer of the Git homepage. He has presented at dozens of conferences around the world on Git, GitHub, and the future of work. 

Marina Gorbis is a futurist and social scientist who serves as Executive Director to the Institute for the Future (IFTF), a Silicon Valley nonprofit research and consulting organization.Marina’s current research focuses on how social production is changing the face of major industries, a topic explored in detail in her book, The Nature of the Future.

As Senior Director of Human Resources, Britt Sellin’s role is to enable Cloudera and its employees to be as effective as possible, while reflecting the best of open source - collaborative, communicative and open. Prior to joining Cloudera, Britt held senior positions at VMware and Sun Microsystems, as it expanded from 12,500 employees to 44,000.

Evan Wittenberg is Chief of People, SVP, People at Box. As chief human resources officer, he leads a team that finds, develops and retains the company’s talent while maintaining the unique culture at Box. Prior to joining Box, Evan was Hewlett-Packard’s Chief Talent Officer where he was responsible for a global workforce of 350,000 employees.

Scott Wyatt, Architect and Managing Partner, NBBJ is an NBBJ Managing Partner, overseeing the talents, accomplishments and business strategies of the firm’s ten offices. Scott has led the creation of new global headquarters for some of the world’s foremost corporations including Boeing, Samsung, Reebok, Telenor, Adobe, Amgen and the Frank Russell Company.
